The third phase of the sign language training programme, designed for dealing with persons with hearing disabilities, was launched by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) on Sunday.
The programme targets both male and female staff working in the customer service offices of some departments and municipalities. Organised by the human resources department, in collaboration with the Qatar Social and Cultural Centre for the Deaf, the activities will continue until November 26.
The course is being held within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to adequately prepare the customer service staff to facilitate their interactions with persons with hearing disabilities.
On Sunday, sign language specialists and instructors Ayesha Abdul Qader Jarrar and Maysem Musa Badr introduced participants from the ministry to some of the newly adopted terminology and explained how to communicate with people with hearing
disabilities.
The participants have also been advised to communicate with the Qatar Social and Cultural Centre for the Deaf to practise these skills and gain new experiences.
The first two phases of the programme had seen the eager participation of staff from the MMUP.
