International rock band Simple Minds have been unveiled as the headliner act for the 2016 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters village concert series. The Glaswegian band will perform live in front of thousands of fans in the Public Village at Doha Golf Club, during the four-day golf event. The concert will take place from 7pm on Friday, January 29, promising to enthral visitors as frontman Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill bring the band’s unique on-stage energy and attitude to Qatar for the very first time.
Simple Minds were formed in 1977, founded on the South Side of Glasgow, and achieved huge success in the 1980s with popular US number one hit Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, the soundtrack of the movie The Breakfast Club. And now, almost three-and-a-half decades on from their first real landmark album Empires And Dance, the Glasgow quintet with Kerr and Burchill at their creative core will remind fans in Doha why they are one of the greatest bands on the planet.
The rock idols will be making their debut in Qatar at the 2016 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters where spectators will be treated to what is set to be an unforgettable performance featuring the band’s top hits including Alive and Kicking and Belfast Child. Following their recent UK tour, the legendary live act will also perform tracks from their 16th album Big Music, a new collection that reaffirms their world-class credentials and the culmination of a decade of rediscovery.
“We are currently touring the UK and Europe so we’re looking forward to extending our tour dates to the Middle East with shows in Doha and Dubai. We’ve performed in the region before but this will be our first time in Qatar so we’ll be bringing our well known hits as well as some of our new music to the 2016 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters,” said Kerr.
Tournament organisers - the Qatar Golf Association (QGA), Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Commercial Bank - are ready to welcome thousands of visitors to Doha Golf Club from January 27 – 30 for a an exciting weekend packed with world-class European Tour golf and family entertainment. In addition to taking in one of the world’s most renowned music acts, families and friends will have the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere at gourmet pop up restaurants, indulge in the shopping boulevard with a wide selection of merchandise on sale and enjoy a myriad of activities in the family zone.
