An Arab motorist has been sentenced in absentia to six months in jail, blood money of QR200,000 and a fine of QR10,000 for running over a pedestrian, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
A Doha court ruled that the man was guilty of unpremeditated killing. The blood money has to be paid to the legal heirs of the victim in collaboration with the insurance company concerned.
The court also ordered the withdrawal of his driving licence for a month.  The court established that the defendant was driving his vehicle recklessly when he hit the victim, throwing him about 25m away. He suffered several injuries and fractures which caused his death, the daily added.
