The second Katara European Jazz Festival ended at the Cultural Village on Sunday.
The five-day event, jointly organised by Katara and the embassies of Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, was attended by a large number of jazz lovers from different nationalities, according to a statement.
During the festival, some of the finest representatives of European jazz enthralled the audience in a courtyard just behind Building 5.
The concluding evening of the musical event was graced by Dutch musician Michiel Borstlap. Present on the occasion was Yvette Burghgraef-Van Eechoud, ambassador of the Netherlands in Qatar.
Borstlap is widely considered as one of the finest pianists in Europe. He has released over 20 albums in various settings and line-ups on labels like Universal/Verve and found his own record company, Gramercy Park.
On Friday, Albin Brun from Switzerland convened the evening and amused jazz lovers with a unique blend of jazz, folk and improvisation. Beside the references to different musical cultures, the closeness to his alpine traditions has always been an important benchmark.
The event continued with the Biel Ballester Trio of Spain and jazz lovers enjoyed the personal style based on the Django Reinhardt manouche heritage, at the same time incorporating Mediterranean musical traditions.
The statement notes that the event materialised thanks to the partnership between Katara, Qatar Music Academy, Qatar Airways (official airline) and Darwish Holding.
