Trade relations between Qatar and Mexico are expected to strengthen with the opening of Promexico, the trade and investment office that will act as a platform for the Qatari businessmen and their South American country’s counterparts.
This was disclosed at the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) business meeting with a delegation from the Mexican government, headed by the vice minister of foreign affairs, ahead of the visit of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Mexico next month.
QBA highlighted the promising investment opportunities for Mexican companies since the domestic market is experiencing strong momentum in various fields especially after Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup.
Large-scale projects are expected to contribute “significantly” to the creation of numerous investment opportunities covering all sectors, a QBA spokesman said after the meeting with the Mexican delegation.
The meeting, which was aimed at discussing ways to enhance trade relations between Qatar and Mexico, also came in the backdrop of the visit of Mexican President Enrique Pe?a Nieto to Qatar in January 2016.
The Mexican delegation comprised ambassador Carlos De Icaza; Promexico chief executive Francisco Gonzalez Diaz; Deputy Undersecretary for Public Debt, Ministry of Finance and Public Credit Alejandro Diaz de Lean; General Director for International Affairs, Ministry of Energy Alejandro Amarera; and Director of Strategy, Ministry of Tourism Sergio Holguin Roman.
The Qatari side was attended by Hussein Alfardan, QBA first deputy chairman and other board members as Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal bin Thani al-Thani, Ebrahim Mohamed al-Jaidah, Nabil Abu Issa and Makboul Khalfan. Sarah Abdullah, QBA deputy general manager was also present.
Mexico, which has free trade agreements with 46 countries, is seeking to increase its exports to Arab countries, Diaz said, adding the country has created an environment that attracts investment and helps mutual cooperation in various fields.
