The musculoskeletal and rheumatology division of the medicine department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will hold the second Musculoskeletal Imaging Course from tomorrow until November 3 at the Qatar
Robotic Surgery Centre.
Dr Azzat Khanjar, senior consultant of rheumatology, and course organiser and director, said the course is aligned with HMC’s efforts in facilitating first-class medical education opportunities for rheumatologists and in enhancing their efficiency, contributing to HMC’s goal of providing the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to all its patients.
“Following the great success of the course last year, we have tailored this year’s programme to ensure maximum benefit to participants, including HMC rheumatologists from the orthopaedics, orthopaedic surgery and radiology departments. This group will benefit from the course because the care they provide to patients overlaps with the services being provided by the musculoskeletal and rheumatology division,” Dr Khanjar said, adding that participants from GCC countries will also take part.
The course will be divided into two parts. The first part will feature a four-day ultrasound training programme for rheumatologists through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on training by internationally-acclaimed trainers. The lectures will be conducted at two levels: basic level for beginners in ultrasound practice and intermediate level for rheumatologists who are already practising ultrasound and would like to improve and upgrade their skills.
The second part will feature an internationally-renowned rheumatologist at a two-day training programme on musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging. Radiologists specialised in the diagnostic imaging of the musculoskeletal system from HMC will also give lectures on methodologies of reading MRI that would assist clinicians in making proper diagnosis.
For the first time in the region, this year’s course will include training sessions on vasculitis and parotid gland ultrasound imaging, in addition to a hands-on workshop on ultrasound guided injection techniques. The last day activities will see a focus on the best practices in the evaluation of musculoskeletal and rheumatoid arthritis cases.
