A new generation of smart solutions driven by machine-to-machine (M2M) technology is set to transform Qatar’s energy sector as the nation strives to enhance its approach to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean technology, experts at the “Power Qatar Summit 2015” revealed.
As Gold Sponsors and M2M Partners for the summit, Ooredoo is using its presence at the event to highlight the full range of smart energy solutions now available, and the role that M2M technology can play in enabling conservation and ensuring sustainable power growth.
Ooredoo’s range of M2M services for businesses covers a multitude of essential industries. In the energy sector, Ooredoo is developing a range of solutions that implant unique identifiers into the energy grid and then transfer data automatically to enable companies to generate, disperse, monitor, manage, and reduce energy consumption more effectively.
In particular, Ooredoo is pioneering a range of smart metering solutions for residential and business complexes. The smart meters offer a range of intelligent functions, including showing homeowners how much energy they are using on a display in their home, supporting power plant workers to monitor energy generation, and enabling city planners to manage demand for water and power.
Ooredoo Qatar chief operating officer Waleed al-Sayed said: “Energy consumption is a major cost for businesses and developers, and a significant social and environmental challenge for all nations. Qatar is taking major steps to address strategic issues surrounding energy and Ooredoo is providing the smart technology that will enable companies and people to manage energy production and demand far more effectively.
“At the Power Qatar Summit 2015, Ooredoo is showcasing the latest innovations in this area and demonstrating how our Supernet supports a comprehensive national energy strategy.”
An expert from Ooredoo will deliver a keynote speech at the event, which will outline the range of M2M solutions currently in use in the energy sector, and discuss how these can be integrated into a comprehensive approach to energy management.
The Power Qatar Summit 2015 showcases several methods of power generation including plants, turbines, and renewable sources such as solar Photo-Voltaic (PV) and CSP facilities.
The event, which also incorporates the Solar Qatar Summit, is held under the patronage of Kahramaa and is expected to gather around 300 senior level executives to discuss progress, future developments, and best practices across power industries.
