The US embassy in Doha and US Department of Commerce, with support from the American Institute of Architects and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), organised an executive-led Architecture and Engineering Services Trade Mission to Qatar yesterday.
The purpose was to introduce US firms to the expanding and diversifying Qatari market as Qatar continues to develop new infrastructure projects. The participants had the opportunity to meet with and develop strong working relationships with locally based architects, developers, engineering developers and local government officials.
The American firms, who have expertise in planning and development, port redevelopment, airport and transportation infrastructure design, healthcare facilities and sports, entertainment and educational facility architecture, met with key local business and government interlocutors, visited a number of noteworthy Qatari buildings and participated in a networking event to showcase the best in American services.
“America’s engineering industry plays a critical role in solving energy, transportation, housing, water and sanitation needs throughout the world. ACEC is proud to participate in its first architect/engineering trade mission to Qatar,” said David A Raymond, president/CEO of ACEC.
US ambassador to Qatar, Dana Shell Smith, observed that American engineering and architectural firms are some of the most innovative and cutting edge in the world.
“As Qatar continues massive infrastructure development across a wide variety of sectors, American companies are providing inspiration, products and services that represent the best of American ingenuity,” she stated.
Deputy chief of mission, Ryan Gliha welcomed guests to a reception at the Msheireb Enrichment Centre in honour of the Trade Mission. The reception featured guests from the public and private sectors, government, and the arts community.
