Carnegie Mellon in Qatar (CMU-Q) in Education City is hosting Serkan Piantino, founder and site director of Facebook’s New York office, on October 25 for a roundtable discussion on the future of computing.
Piantino is a CMU alumnus who joined Facebook in 2007. As director of engineering in Facebook’s artificial intelligence research lab, he played a key role in developing vital features like Timeline and Newsfeed.
“As a computer science alumnus who works on the cutting-edge of social media development, Piantino’s perspective is particularly important for Carnegie Mellon students and faculty, as well as leaders in government and industry in Qatar,” CMU-Q dean Ilker Baybars said.
The talk will be moderated by Khaled Harras, associate teaching professor of computer science and director of the computer science programme at CMU-Q. A question and answer session will follow the discussion. The event is open to the public.
