A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced an expatriate salesman at a mobile phone shop to one year in jail and subsequent deportation, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Tuesday.

The salesman was convicted of blackmailing a lady, who had given her mobile phone to the shop for repair, by copying the photos on her mobile and keeping a copy for himself.

Some days after her phone was repaired, the lady received a call from an unidentified man who told her that he has a copy of her private photo collection from her mobile.

Due to the sensitive nature of the photos, the man asked to meet the lady, and resolve the issue with her in exchange for a sum of money.

When the lady asked how he got the photos and who he was, he did not give an answer.

However, she was sure that her phone was not given to anybody except the repair shop and no one could have access to it.

She reported the issue to the authorities concerned, and the blackmailer was identified as the mobile shop salesman who was arrested.

During the investigation, the convict admitted that he had made a copy of the woman's photos and kept them on his computer, but denied blackmailing her.

The court, however, established his guilt based on the investigations and sentenced him, the daily added.
