Alex Cudlin and Abdulaziz bin Ladin completed a double after both the riders won the second race of the second round of the Qatar Superbike and Qatar Supersport championships at Losail International Circuit yesterday.
Just like in the first race on Saturday, Cudlin finished ahead of the Qatari duo of Mishal al-Naimi and Nasser al-Malki. Al-Malki took early lead but was overtaken by Cudlin and al-Naimi in the third lap.
Cudlin was palpably pleased with his performance yesterday.
“I am very happy to get this result. I am surprised because before the race I felt really sick. I don’t know why; in my stomach, I didn’t feel really good,” Cudlin said after the win. “I thought maybe in the race I would take it easy and finish third or second. I had a good fight with Nasser and Mishal and then, I came into the lead with no one behind me.
“I just continued with my pace and in the last two laps I pushed to the maximum to create a gap. It is perfect for the championship. I have 20 points lead and hopefully next round I can race to another double win.”
Al-Naimi had problems with his Honda bike and couldn’t push to catch Cudlin. “I am happy for the result but I hope to be 100 percent in the next round and get the victory. I would like to thank Ooredoo for the support and I am looking forward to the next round,” he said.
In the second Supersport race, bin Ladin increased his lead over Fahid al-Sowaidi with another victory yesterday. The Saudi Arabian rider, who started on pole, led throughout the race, giving no chance to al-Sowaidi for an overtaking manoeuvre.
Ahmed al-Muyini finished third behind al-Sowaidi.
“I am very happy with my two victories and this result is great for my first year in this championship,” bin Ladin said.
American rider Shelina Moreda was the fastest woman in QSS race two.
“This race was better than the previous one. It was so hot today but it is awesome to race here in Qatar. I would like to thank QMMF, FIM Women in Motorsport and my mechanic for their support, Moreda said.
In the veterans category, Ian Maud led an identical podium from race one for yesterday’s race with Christopher Bell and Martin Bexon finishing second and third.
The next round for Qatar Superbike and Qatar Supersport will be on November 6-7.
