The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Molsa) received 1,006 labour complaints in the third quarter of 2015, according to new statistics.
The complaints mainly pertained to issues such as payment delays, air tickets, end-of-service gratuity and leave allowance, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
Some 121 of these cases were referred to court, representing 12% of the overall complaints registered during this period. While 658 complaints (65.4% of the total) were settled in an amicable manner, 219 (21.8%) were closed and eight are still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Molsa Recruitment Department received 10,884 requests for workers in the said period. Some 4,776 of these were granted, accounting for around 43.8% of the overall requests.
Similarly, the Labour Inspection Department conducted 13,453 labour inspection visits in the last three months, with 152 companies being banned and violation reports registered against 133 firms.
