AJ+, the digital-only news platform of Al Jazeera Media Network, has announced that it has achieved more than 1bn online video views a year since its inception in September 2014.
“It is a great achievement to reach such a milestone in such a short span of time since the launch,” said Dima Khatib, managing director at AJ+.
“It is a testament to the hard work of the AJ+ team and also the support that Al Jazeera Media Network has given to cutting-edge digital platforms in delivering content.”
AJ+ has “revolutionised news on social media platforms, providing its users and communities with a compelling way to engage and interact with events and issues shaping our world”, according to a statement.
“AJ+ highlights human struggles and achievements, strives to make the voice of the voiceless heard, empowers impassioned voices and tackles the status quo. The platform is structured to deliver a refreshing and bold perspective on current events prompting engagement with custom content for online social communities, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram as well as the AJ+ mobile app,” the statement noted.
On Facebook, AJ+ received 1,016,062,889 video views and there were 432,653,724 30-second views (number of times the page’s videos were viewed for 30 seconds or more) as well. Besides, there were 1,137,000 page likes. Some 69% of Facebook fans were in the 18-34 age group.
On YouTube, AJ+ had over 28mn views and 137,000 subscribers, with the total number of minutes watched exceeding 44mn.
