Pitches for batboys
Dear Sir,
Cricket boards, it seems, often create pitches meant for batboy hits. In any genuine competition or sports, equal access and opportunities must be offered to all participants but in cricket, all players, including bowlers, exclusively promote batboys, apparently to make the game more thrilling.
It often seems that the bowlers are there only to help batboys score big runs.
Pitches must be prepared to suit both batboys and bowlers, not just the former. By preparing pitches only to help batboys to hit big and never to get out is unfair. It is similar to match-fixing.
Teams want to bat first and get as many runs and 100s/50s as possible and when bowling they tend to give the same chance to the rival team to score as many runs as possible!

Younis Khan sets Test record
Dear Sir,
The sports page report, “Malik hits comeback ton as England rue missed chances” (Gulf Times, October 14), says “Younis Ahmed becomes highest run-getter for Pakistan”. The report has got the name wrong. The name should be Younis Khan.
Younis Khan became Pakistan’s all-time leading Test run scorer on the first day of the first Test against England in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
When he reached 19 in Abu Dhabi, he overtook Javed Miandad’s mark of 8,832, which has stood since 1993.
Younis, 37, is playing in his 102nd Test having made his debut in 2000.
He is now the 15th highest run scorer in Test history, and third among active players, behind only Shiv Chanderpaul and Alastair Cook.
