The 73-bed hospital features a number of medical facilities and departments.
The Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital in Boutilimit, Mauritania, has issued its semi-annual report of the medical activities and services offered in the first half of 2015 to improve the health conditions of the local communities of Boutilimit and neighbouring regions.
The hospital served around 54,000 beneficiaries during this period, according to a statement.
Operated and managed by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), under an MoU with Education Above All (EAA), the hospital continued to rely on the same resources and infrastructure of 2014, with an 86-member workforce that includes specialist doctors, nurses, assistants, social workers and administrative staff.
According to the report, the emergency unit registered 5,915 cases, outpatient clinics 25,131 clients, recovery departments (internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, and general surgery) 2,530 stays, Ob/Gyn 482 deliveries, the medical lab 18,774 examinations and the
surgical unit 502 operations.
The hospital focuses on training students of public health schools in Mauritania. Over the period covered by the report, 47 medical workers were trained, including 10 nurses and eight midwives.
Working towards the sustainable and comprehensive professional development of human resources, the hospital held two training courses for the Ob/Gyn staff, instructed by the Nouakchott Doctor and Midwife Trainer. In total, the two courses were attended by 24 medical workers.
Also, the hospital participated in a two-day medical convoy despatched by a local charity in Monguel, Gorgol region. It contributed a medical team comprising an Ob/Gyn doctor, a nurse and a social adviser, along with medical equipment and medicines. By the end of the second day, the team had conducted 160 Ob/Gyn and ultrasound examinations.
A medical mission comprising an Ob/Gyn doctor, a general practitioner, a midwife, an assistant, a pharmacist and a driver was sent to Rkiz, Trarza region, with a batch of medications and medical supplies. Over a day, the mission accomplished 271 medical consultations.
As part of the World Health Organisation’s “Save Lives: Clean Your Hands” campaign, the hospital organised an open educative day for all staff, featuring several informative and field activities. It was concluded with a training course for 25 staff members, which involved specialised discussions and presentations.
Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital was established in 2007 under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser through the Qatari-Mauritanian Social Development Foundation, and is now supervised through EAA.
On average, the medical staff of the 73-bed hospital performs 40 surgical operations per month, with women and children as the main beneficiaries.
