The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) organised two lectures on first-aid recently aimed at educating participants on how to handle injury and other emergency cases.

In a statement, QRCS said that 25 students aged between 8 and 16 attended the first lecture which was held at the International Center for Leadership Development (ICLD).

The lecture, under the ICLD’s leader development camp, covered several topics including an introduction to first-aid and its techniques as an important life-saving skill for both leaders and the public.

QRCS noted that the students learned the proper way of contacting the ambulance, how to describe the case clearly and how to follow instructions until medics arrive. They were also taught how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for youngsters and adults.

Experts also trained the participants how to assess certain situations such as identifying the kind of help to offer based on the degrees of consciousness and dealing with fainting cases.

Held in co-operation with Qatar Charity's (QC) Center for Community Development, the second lecture was attended by 32 students and administrative staff who participated in the center's cultural and sports summer camp.

Topics included attending to cases that require first aid prior to medical assistance such as burn, wound, bleeding, nosebleed, sprain, fracture, drowning, suffocation, allergy and sun strike.

In the lecture, some of the mistakes in dealing with accident victims were also explained in detail.
