Filling up cars has become a time-consuming job in Doha because of the ever-present rush at fuel pumps. Queues of cars are a common sight at petrol stations. Why can’t Doha have more petrol stations, please? The shortage of petrol stations causes a huge inconvenience to motorists. The other day I had to spend nearly 40 minutes to fill up my car at a petrol station on the C Ring Road.
Woqod is the exclusive fuel distributor in Qatar. And its mission statement is to “provide all customers with reliable, professional and innovative solutions through friendly, excellent and convenient services”.
It is then Woqod’s responsibility to make sure that there are enough petrol stations in the country to meet the demand. Motorists’ precious time should not be wasted in queuing up at petrol stations.
The only other place where such rush is seen in Qatar is at car wash centres where, in normal cases, one has to spend at least half a day to get his vehicle cleaned! But in case of cleaning cars, people can do it themselves if necessary. But for filling up petrol, one has to go to fuel pumps!
If Woqod conducts a survey, it will realise the need for more for petrol stations in Doha. The UAE has more vehicles on the road than in Qatar. But such a problem doesn’t seem to exist there.
I hope authorities will take measures to open more petrol stations to serve the ever-growing number of motorists in Qatar.

A positive approach

The Philippines’ attitude towards the “World War Two apology” issue deserves to be taken note of (“WWII foe Japan is now a friend, says Manila”, Gulf Times, August 16) by other countries in the region. It’s time let bygones be bygones. It is time to move on.
The Philippines says it has rebuilt a “strong friendship” with Japan even as its neighbours have criticised Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for what they say “failing to properly apologise” for Tokyo’s aggression during World War II.
Since the war, Japan had “acted with compassion” which led to a relationship “characterised by trust and unfailing support in so many fields”, Philippine foreign affairs secretary Albert del Rosario said, according to the report. That shows a very positive and mature approach.
