Fifty-eight newly appointed district judges took the oath of office and secrecy yesterday.
Chief judge at the appellate court of Patan, Shambhu Bahadur Khadka, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new judges.
The judicial council on August 6 had recommended 60 undersecretaries for the post of district judge to the chief justice. Chief justice Kalyan Shrestha had appointed them on the same day.
However, two judges- Sharad Chandra Lawat and Awani Mainali (Bhattarai)- are yet to take the oath, as they are out of the Kathmandu Valley currently.
The interim constitution of Nepal 2007 has a provision that allows government undersecretaries with three years’ experience in law, justice, or as working as attorney are qualified for becoming district judge .
For now, 39 were recommended from judicial service, nine from law and 12 from attorney’s service.
