W Doha’s unflinching commitment to Education Above All has resulted in a
generous contribution during Ramadan and beyond. By Anand Holla
During Ramadan various organisations and establishments across Qatar have been busy with their charity drives. One of them is W Doha Hotel & Residences, which has reaffirmed its commitment to Education Above All (EAA).
Channelling the grandeur of a Turkish emperor’s palace, W Doha’s Ramadan Sultan’s Tent was arguably one of the finest tents of the season, much like last year. Driven by a Turkish theme, the tent wowed the patrons with its glitzy play of light, a beautiful sense of space, rich décor, and of course, scrumptious food that could be had at any of its live stations in the dining area, including a buzzing Turkish corner.
The much-talked about Ramadan Sultan’s Tent generated a total of QR19,240 in just one night, and W Doha Hotel & Residences says it continues to serve dishes all throughout its F&B outlets so guests can also further their support for the charity’s cause. It has been serving the Calamari Leak Roll for QR75 at The Spice Market and Market by Jean-Georges; Bastoncini di Polenta Croccante for QR20 at La Spiga; and Carrot cupcake for QR35 at the W Café.
“All the proceeds from these specially constructed dishes then go to Education Above All. As of June, the hotel had witnessed a sale of more than 2,900 dishes across their venues, subsequently raising approximately QR167,000 for the cause,” W Doha says.
Propelled by a vision to bring new life chances and real hope and opportunities to poor and marginalised children, youth and women in the developing world, EAA is a global initiative founded in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. EAA runs programmes that provide educational opportunities, with a special commitment to communities facing poverty and crisis.
Fahad al-Sulaiti, Deputy CEO, Education Above All, pointed out the W Doha Hotel & Residences’ unrelenting commitment, and said, “At EAA, we are very grateful for the W Hotel’s generosity in donating all proceeds from the Iftar to our Educate A Child programme as well as in continuing the support beyond Ramadan.”
This donation will go towards their goal of reaching 10mn children who currently do not have access to education by 2016, said al-Sulaiti. “Any day is a good time to give back, and we hope that the W’s patrons enjoy their meals knowing that they are contributing to promoting access to education for the world’s most marginalised children. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the W Hotel, and in raising awareness of the important issue of education as a basic human right that is still denied to 58mn children around the world,” al-Sulaiti said.
EAA works with global, national, regional and local partners to implement proven and innovative interventions in education, to protect the right to education wherever it is under threat, to draw international attention to critical education issues, and to collaborate with leading global organisations to resolve education-related challenges.
