Qatar Charity’s office in Niger and UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have signed an agreement to distribute seeds to the farmers, and sheep to a number of households. The first agreement will help more than 12,000 farmers, while the second will help around 100 families.
The agreement of distributing seeds during this year’s rain farming season targets the minor farmers in the villages affected by the drought and threatened to face food crises. Through this project, QC will distribute 81 tonnes of seeds, and will report and evaluate the farming season in the targeted areas. This project will help 12,100 farming families, which will be selected upon consultation with the local authorities in 124 villages.
QC also chooses its executive, and supervising teams. Through the sheep distribution agreement in Calvo territory, QC distributes sheep to the targeted women, focusing mainly on the widows. QC aims at supporting the women financially so that they would help their families in return. QC also supervises the money distribution to the benefiting people who will buy the sheep which cost  QR 31,000. QC will follow up the buying procedures, and will provide the necessary vaccines for the sheep during the three-month-long project.
Through its office in Niger, QC implements several projects in different fields, especially in agriculture. Three months ago, QC implemented a seeds’ bank project, and farming sponsorship at a cost of more than QR120,000 . Around 6,000 farmers in Dosso, Tillabéri, and Tahoua benefited from the project. QC is currently working on launching a new seeds project in 144 villages.  The idea of this project is to build warehouses which are supplied with seeds provided by QC.
