Qatar Airways, in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Hamad International Airport (HIA), launched and ran a three-day “Beat the Heat” campaign at HIA recently.
The campaign, which involved a mobile caravan staffed by medical advisers as well as leaflets and giveaways for employees, aimed to raise awareness among the staff of Qatar Airways Group about the safety measures to be taken at work during the summer, especially for those who work outdoors.
Safety is of paramount importance to Qatar Airways and this initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to provide all its employees and customers with a safe and healthy environment,  a statement said.
Qatar Airways partnered with HMC for this year’s summer campaign. HMC began its five-year health and safety campaign called Kulluna, which means “All of us” in Arabic, in 2012. This year, in conjunction with Qatar Airways, it took place at HIA – the airline’s home and hub.
Staff from HMC conducted talks with Qatar Airways staff in three different languages about the dos and don’ts during the summer and the importance of appropriate health and safety. They were also given care packages to help them stay safe during the summer heat.
Badr Mohamed al-Meer, chief operating officer at HIA, said: “We are proud to be hosting this campaign along with Qatar Airways and Hamad Medical Corporation at Hamad International Airport. ‘Safety first’ is a policy we strictly adhere to in our day-to-day operations and this campaign has given us the opportunity to speak directly to our staff and educate them about the safety precautions to be taken during the summer; and who better to do this than HMC, the leading medical corporation in the country.”
Ashish Jain, Qatar Airways senior vice-president (group safety and security), said: “The continual and ongoing safety of our staff is of paramount importance to Qatar Airways and we are delighted to have partnered with HMC and HIA for this highly worthwhile and proactive initiative. By focusing on staff education, we can ensure that our team understand the key issues and are able to take care of their health during the hot summer months.”
Dr Khalid Abdulnoor Saifeldeen, chairman of Kulluna, said the campaign - which is now in its third year - has been successful in raising public awareness of the precautionary measures needed to ensure safe working conditions for those who spend a large portion of their working day outside during the summer period.
“We are very happy to be collaborating with Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport in supporting their admirable efforts in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their employees during summer,” he said.
The Kulluna campaign encourages members of the public to stay sufficiently hydrated throughout their working day and advises them on the wearing of sun-protective clothing and the use of shaded areas for respite from the direct sun.
