A six-team Eid cricket tournament got under way at the Asian Town cricket stadium yesterday.
The teams participating in the two-day event represent Qatar, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Three matches, including the final, will be played today, according to the organisers. The first match of the day will start after 5pm.
Besides the finalists, the other teams too will receive cash awards. The organisers are also giving “surprise” awards to spectators.
One of the organisers said more spectators are expected to attend the matches scheduled for today. They have made arrangements with several companies in the Industrial Area and other parts of Doha to ferry spectators.
However, the adverse weather remains a concern as many people chose to stay indoors till late in the evening yesterday.
Meanwhile, the cinemas at Asian Town recorded good attendance for all shows yesterday. An official of the company managing the facility said three halls are now open and each of them has received a good response from residents.
Similarly, a Nepalese cultural programme held at the amphitheatre of Asian Town drew good crowds yesterday.
Meanwhile, a report from Al Khor said the Barwa workers’ sports complex in the northern town received streams of visitors in the evening for different activities organised for expatriates.
