Qatar Red Crescent (QRC), through its “This Is My Wish” programme, granted the ‘wishes’ of 38 children who are undergoing treatment for various illnesses.
At a ceremony held recently, the event welcomed the beneficiaries through a number of fun games and gift-giving activity.
Organisers also honoured the parents for their love and patience in taking care of their ill children despite the difficulties they face.
“Supporting the patients is a top priority of our department as an effective way to help them recover. This programme is designed to offer psychological support to ill children,” said Rashid bin Saad al-Mohannadi, director of QRC Social Development Department.
He noted that social development is one of their major departments working to serve the Qatari society by helping the vulnerable.
The QR80,000-programme of QRC was implemented in co-operation with the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) which selected the beneficiaries with different illnesses including cancer, speech disorders and those with special needs.
QRC’s head of empowerment, Hanadi al-Moallem, thanked HMC for its continuous co-operation with them in implementing local projects. She also lauded their volunteers in organising the event.
The event also received praises from parents who described the programme as valuable in helping their children get well. “They commended the good spirit and kind treatment from QRC and HMC social advisers.”
Launched in 2007, “This Is My Wish” is one of QRC’s social development programmes conducted annually in Ramadan. It aims to make chronically ill children feel happy, help them survive their health problems to live normal lives like others.
