CAKE CUTTING: Ambassador Santos and IIEE National President Sheila Cabaraban led the cutting of the ribbon and the ceremonial slicing of IIEE-SQC cake.
The Filipino Electrical Engineers in Doha, IIEE-State of Qatar Chapter (IIEE-SQC), held their 2015 Mid-year Convention and General Membership Meeting at the Regency Hall on D-Ring Road recently.
Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C Santos and IIEE-National President Sheila C Cabaraban, PEE from Manila, were the VIP guests. A total of 252 people attended the event.
Arnulfo Surigao, in his opening remarks, informed the members that IIEE-SQC will be celebrating its one decade of existence in November. The organisation started with 35 members and has now grown to almost 700 members, he said.

Ambassador Santos stressed on the need to serve the Filipino community with a smile and the promotion of cleanliness and orderliness in the Philippine Embassy as his primary concern in Qatar.
In her speech, the IIEE National President emphasised and expounded the core values of IIEE, which she wanted to be observed and serve as the guiding principle in the governance of the institute. She also praised and appreciated the “unprecedented support, exceptional involvement and presence of the past presidents.”
The IIEE theme of the year, “IIEE@40 — A journey to Service Excellence”, which was also the theme of the event was enlightened by the IIEE National President. Service excellence for Filipinos is the ultimate goal of the institute, she said.
Some of the topics discussed during the 2015 Midyear Convention include: “Lighting Solutions” delivered by the Technical Representative of Architectural Moonlight Solutions Qatar; “KAHRAMAA Distribution Substation” by Mario Solang, PEE, one of the Filipino Electrical Engineers of Kahramaa; “Use of Testing Equipment” by Technical Representative of Promp Qatar; “Gas Turbine, Process and Control” by Enrique I Flores, an Electrical Engineer working at Qatar International Power Technology; and “Financial Planning for OFWs by Marie Ann Anduyon, AFP, the President of Overseas Filipino Investors and Entrepreneurs Movement.
The event was aimed to upgrade the technical competence of the members of IIEE-SQC to become globally competitive and realise their full potential. This also fosters the camaraderie of the strong 700 plus members of the institute here in Qatar.
Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to IIEE National office in the Philippines for its scholarship programme to poor but deserving Electrical Engineering students in the Philippines.
