The annual Senior Design Contest of the College of Engineering (CENG) at Qatar University brought together graduating students from all CENG majors, to showcase their winning senior design project in front of a panel of judges from the local industry.    
A total of 168 students in 60 teams presented 60 projects from all CENG programmes to 41 judges from different institutions and industrial companies in Qatar. The projects were evaluated on innovation, commercial potential, sustainability and presentation quality.
This year’s competition, held on June 4, was sponsored by Qapco, Dolphin Energy Limited and Occidental Petroleum of Qatar (Oxy Qatar).
CENG dean Dr Rashid Alammari, said: “We are proud to have such great co-operation with industrial companies that provide the support and the encouragement for our students.”  
He added that the Senior Design Contest challenges each team to articulate their project’s objective, strategy and results to a diverse audience.  “As such, of chief importance in this competition is the ability to clearly communicate complex subject matter in a user-friendly way. All the graduation projects reflect the students’ commitment to producing innovative and quality work with the support of faculty members. The competition also motivates them to excel in designing and producing their projects where they gain valuable feedback from the judges that will serve them well in their future endeavours” he added.
Adel Ahmed Albuainain, general manager, Dolphin Energy said: “Through our sponsorship of the Senior Design Contest, which brings together industry and academia, we hope to provide opportunities so that young talent can pursue their dreams.There is a growing demand for new technology and innovation and this contest recognises that while seeking to foster the next generation of leaders.”  
Oxy Qatar president and general manager Stephen Kelly said:  “We believe that College of Engineering programmes promote the importance of engineering and science for the country’s development. Oxy continues its sponsorship of CENG which will have a positive impact on the country’s future competitiveness as well as opportunities towards success for its students.”
