The German Business Council Qatar (GBCQ) has re-elected its board of directors during its annual general members assembly held at the Wyndham Grand Regency Hotel on Tuesday.
Boris Van Thiel was re-elected as GBCQ’s chairman of the board, while Peter Binneboessel (Arc de Triomphe),  Henning Zimmermann (DB Schenker), Dr Helmut Landahl (Hochtief Solutions), and Adel al-Mannai (Teyseer) were re-appointed as board members.
During the annual general members assembly, the GBCQ also elected a new treasurer, auditors, and arbitration committee.
According to Van Thiel, his new term will provide an opportunity to strengthen the GBCQ’s relationship with the German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar (AHK), the German Embassy in Doha, and the local Qatari business community.
The GBCQ was founded in December 2002 in Doha as a non-governmental and non-profit association representing all interested German and Qatari companies.
As its main objective, the council aims to promote business relations between Germany and Qatar by forming a platform where business representatives of both nations can meet and exchange views and ideas. Its membership has grown to 150 with more than one third of its members coming from Qatari companies.
One of the GBCQ’s achievements was the collaboration with other organisations from Spain, the US, Turkey, and Switzerland.
The collaboration provided a successful networking platform where the participants met with business prospects, exchanged ideas, and co-operated with local and international communities.
“Over the last years, Qatar has developed into one of the fastest growing economies in the world. In the dynamic business climate of the Gulf region, German products enjoy an excellent reputation which is showcased in the increasing bilateral trade, which registered a record high of over €2bn reflecting a long and successful partnership,” the GBCQ said.
The GBCQ is managed by the German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar (AHK). AHK Qatar is the official institution authorised by the German Federal Government and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce to represent the interests of German companies and associations in Qatar.
