The urology department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) organised the first Qatar-Turkey Urology Symposium in collaboration with the Turkish Association of Urology in Antalya, Turkey.
Dr Khalid al-Rumaihi, consultant in surgery and head of HMC’s urology department, stated that the symposium was a result of the fruitful collaboration between the department and the Turkish Association of Urology. As many as 30 healthcare professionals from HMC took part in the symposium during which they exchanged knowledge and discussed the latest diagnostic and therapeutic
advances in the field of urology.
Dr al-Rumaihi presented a paper on prostate tumors; Dr Sabah al-Qadhi, consultant in surgery at HMC’s urology department spoke about urinary bladder fistulas; and Dr Abdulla al-Naimi, also a consultant in surgery at HMC’s urology department presented a paper on minimally invasive
surgery of ureteral calculi.
The Turkish participants also gave three presentations on the Turkish education system, training and new techniques in urosurgery.
The opening session of the symposium was jointly chaired by Dr Abdulla al-Ansari, head of the surgery department at HMC and Dr Ates Kdioglu, head of the Turkish Association of Urology.
Dr Rumaihi said that the second Qatar-Turkey urology symposium is being planned within the next one or two years, adding that plans were also being discussed between the two countries to boost the exchange of expertise and knowledge in the field of urology.
