Josoor Institute, a key programme of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), successfully concluded the first block of its inaugural certificate and diploma programmes. Almost 80 delegates from Qatar and the Mena region participated in the five day programmes that focused on ‘Football and Sports Management’ and ‘Major Events Management’.
Delegates also had a unique opportunity to interact with globally renowned sports administrator and President of the South African Football Association, Daniel Alexander ‘Danny’ Jordaan, on the final day of the diploma programme.
Jordaan played an instrumental role as CEO of the Organising Committee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa and has served on the marketing and television board of FIFA since 1998. Speaking at the session, Jordaan praised Qatar’s global positioning as a leading sporting hub and highlighted the importance of such training programmes for human skill and capacity development to create a strong legacy and a positive global impact.
Leaders from the local football fraternity including Hassan al-Thawadi, Secretary General of the SC, Mansoor al-Ansari, General Secretary of the Qatar Football Association and Hani Balan, CEO of Qatar Stars League, also delivered motivational talks to the delegates. The talks emphasised Qatar’s commitment to developing the sports sector to further enhance the country’s positioning as the leading sports tourism destination.
They also highlighted the significance of Josoor Institute’s training programmes aimed at developing expertise within the Mena region.
Launched in partnership with leading international academic organisations including Georgetown University, University of Liverpool and Leeds Beckett University, the 18-month certificate and diploma programmes are designed to act as a catalyst in preparing the next generation of specialists who can lead the growth of the sustainable sports and events industries in Qatar and the region.
The diploma programme followed the successful completion of the certificate programme, which brought together local and regional delegates for a five days session. The sessions were packed with talks and insights from international academic partners along with team building exercises and group presentations that helped delegates plan and implement effective ideas in line with strategic
objectives.
