Lab tests on samples of Iranian watermelons available in Qatar have proved that the fruit is free from any chemical, biological or microbial contaminants, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has announced.

Holes found on the outer surface of some Iranian watermelons had caused rumours about alleged contamination.

"It was found that such holes were made by cucumber beetles which had completed their life cycle and could no longer be traced in the melons," the SCH statement explained.

All the samples collected by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) and delivered to SCH were tested and proven to be safe, it was added.
