This certification is one of many planned for Msheireb Downtown Doha, according to Msheireb Properties CEO Abdulla Hassan al-Mehshadi.

 

Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation and Qatar’s leading sustainable developer, has achieved LEED Platinum status for its Diwan Annex building situated within its flagship development, Msheireb Downtown Doha.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification programme that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system and teams choose the best fit for their project.
Certified by the United States Green Building Council under the LEED Core & Shell Version 2.0, the Diwan Annex has met and, in some areas, surpassed all requirements in achieving LEED Platinum certification.
Abdulla Hassan al-Mehshadi, CEO of Msheireb Properties, said: “LEED stands for green building leadership and is transforming the way we think about how buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe. This certification is one of many we have planned for this exciting development right here in the heart of Doha. This is the first out of 59 targeted LEED building projects, 37 LEED for Homes projects and a LEED Neighbourhood Development project at Msheireb Downtown Doha, making it the world’s highest concentration of LEED buildings.”
The Diwan Annex’s world-class green credentials include an energy performance and verification plan, rainwater recovery and onsite energy generation through photovoltaic panels. The overall energy savings for the Diwan Annex come to 35.5% and the overall potable water savings for the building total 87.5%, which includes low-flow toilets and shower heads and the use of non-potable water for toilets. The landscape saving is 100% with no potable water usage at all.
Msheireb Downtown Doha, Msheireb Properties’ flagship urban regeneration development, is billed to be the world’s first “sustainable community”. With more than 100 buildings targeting LEED gold and platinum rating, it will be home to the world’s highest concentration of LEED buildings in the world.
To date, the company has earned the ISO 14001:2004 certificate for environmental performance from the British Standards Institute, as well as BSI certification for quality and health & safety and ISO 31000:2009 certificate for Risk Management Standard.
