Aspetar recently organised the awards ceremony of the Step into Health (SIH) 2015 campus initiative.
The SIH aims to encourage people of Qatar to improve their lifestyle into a self-managed lifelong programme based on a moderate amount of daily activity. SIH promotes physical activity at community level, within workplaces, universities and for patients with specific conditions. The 41,606 members have walked nearly 10 million kilometres.
SIH in the workplace is an initiative that promotes an active healthy lifestyle for office employees offering SIH as walking challenge. As a part of the celebrations of Qatar National Sport Day, Aspetar rewarded active walkers from six organisations which participated in the workplace challenge. Fourteen companies with 2,500 staff have joined the SIH workplace initiative.
This healthy lifestyle campaign for students and staff brought together the participation of around 3,700 students, staff and employees from 11 universities in Qatar.
Compared to last year, the 2014-2015 initiative increased the number of participating universities by 60% and doubled the number of SIH members. During the three months the campuses’ members achieved more than 16bn steps which equals 734,051km. This high achievement was possible due to collaborative efforts towards a healthier active lifestyle within campuses’ environment.
The top three campuses were Community College of Qatar (CCQ), College of the North Atlantic Qatar (CNAQ) and Stenden University.
