Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool) was the bronze sponsor of the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) conference held under the title “The Vision” recently.
The conference, held at Qatar National Convention Centre, addressed major issues and aimed to provide answers to some of the most significant challenges of environmental sustainability and promoting best practice for the built environment for Qatar, the Gulf region and beyond.
Qatar Cool has, in turn, illustrated the significant impact that district cooling has on the environment by highlighting its benefits on communities, governments and end users, according to a statement.
Yasser S al-Jaidah, CEO of Qatar Cool, said: “We pride ourselves on being the leading provider of district cooling in the region. Partnering with Qatar Green Building Council for such events helps us play a bigger role in realising the environmental pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. We are strong believers that such partnerships are essential to building a knowledge-based economy that is fuelled by innovation and collaboration.”
The statement notes that “Qatar Cool takes environmental preservation very seriously,” as was evident in vice-president (Commercial) Mohannad Khader’s presentation titled “District cooling is the way forward,” which indicated some interesting statistics about the environmental impact of the company’s district cooling operations over the past five years.
For example, Khader stated that Qatar Cool’s district cooling operations eliminated around 490mn kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere since 2010. This is equivalent to the environmental effect of removing over 93,000 vehicles from the roads, or planting 12mn mature trees.
