Gregorio Petit’s three-run double highlighted a six-run first inning as the New York Yankees chased Tigers starter David Price early in a 13-4 win over the Tigers.
Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius drove in two runs apiece for New York (8-7) while Mark Teixeira added a three-run homer in the seventh.
Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers (11-4).

Lucas Duda’s RBI single in the eighth inning snapped a tie and lifted the sizzling New York Mets to a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves.
Wilmer Flores finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Mets (12-3), who have won 10 straight games.
The Braves (8-6) have lost six of their last nine.

Down 5-1 in the sixth inning and in danger of a fifth straight loss, the Tampa Bay Rays rallied for a 7-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.
The Rays (7-8) tied the score with four runs in the sixth inning, then jumped ahead in the seventh on a double-play groundout and a solo home run by outfielder Jake Elmore.
Boston fell to 9-6.
Cardinals 7, Nationals 5
Kolten Wong had three hits, including a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning, as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals 7-5.
Wong also had a two-run home run in the second inning while Matt Adams drilled a solo homer in the ninth for the Cardinals (9-4).
The Nationals (7-8) lost for the second time in six games.

Mike Pelfrey gave the Minnesota Twins (6-9) a rare quality start and Brian Dozier stroked two hits, drove in a run and scored a run in a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals (11-4).
Pelfrey gave up five hits, walked two and hit two before turning the lead over to the bullpen in the eighth inning.

Billy Hamilton scored on an eighth-inning wild pitch, giving Cincinnati a 2-1 victory over Milwaukee.
Cincinnati (8-7) pitcher Johnny Cueto allowed a run on five hits over eight innings to get the win, and Aroldis Chapman earned his fourth save.
White Sox 6, Indians 0
First baseman Jose Abreu drove in three runs and the Chicago White Sox got a solid outing from ace Jeff Samardzija in a 6-0 win over the Cleveland Indians (5-9).
Samardzija tossed six innings in the win while Abreu finished with a double and a home run for the White Sox (6-8).
Blue Jays 4, Orioles 2
Justin Smoak and Devon Travis each hit two-run homers as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-2.
Designated hitter Jimmy Paredes hit a two-run homer for the Orioles (7-8). Toronto improved to 8-7.
Pirates 4, Cubs 3
Gregory Polanco hit his first home run of the season and made a pivotal catch to help the Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Chicago Cubs 4-3.
Polanco’s homer increased the Pirates’ (7-8) lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning.
The Cubs (8-6) scored twice in the eighth to cut the deficit.
Marlins 6, Phillies 1
Jarred Cosart pitched six strong innings and the Miami Marlins benefited from some loose play by the Philadelphia Phillies to win 6-1 and end a five-game losing streak.
Miami (4-11) scored four unearned runs off reliever Ken Giles in the eighth, courtesy of two errors as Philadelphia fell to 5-10.
Giants 3, Dodgers 2
Joe Panik’s sacrifice fly to center field scored pinch runner Gregor Blanco in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing the San Francisco Giants to edge the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2.
The game began as a duel between left-handers Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers (9-5) and Madison Bumgarner of the Giants (6-10). Kershaw struck out nine and allowed two runs in six innings while Bumgarner also allowed two and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings.
A’s 9, Angels 2
Sonny Gray conceded just two hits in his seven innings and retired the final 14 batters he faced in the Oakland Athletics’ 9-2 rout of the Los Angeles Angels.
Right fielder Josh Reddick and first baseman Ike Davis each went 3-for-5 while designated hitter Billy Butler hit a home run and drove in four runs, as the A’s (8-8) amassed a season-high 18 hits.
Mariners 3, Astros 2
Starting pitcher J.A. Happ took the win as the Seattle Mariners (6-9) beat Houston 3-2 to end the Astros’ four-game winning streak.
Happ (1-1) earned his first win as a Mariner after allowing two earned runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings as the Astros’ (8-7) run came to an end.
Rockies 5, Padres 4
After tying the game on Corey Dickerson’s second homer of the game in the eighth, the Rockies won it 5-4 in the ninth on a single by pinch-hitter Daniel Descalso.
San Diego (10-6) had scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to take the lead before Colorado (8-7) hit back.
