Al-Khalifa delivering the keynote address at the “Leaders in Construction Summit — Qatar 2015” in Doha on Tuesday.
Some of Qatar’s top construction industry leaders gathered here on Tuesday for an industry summit focused on achieving the country’s vast infrastructural ambitions.
The event, “Leaders in construction summit — Qatar 2015” held at the Grand Hyatt, brought together a selection of major local construction clients as well as industry service providers and addressed challenges facing the local market.
These include inflation, retaining and attracting quality professionals, dealing with the market’s ambitious demands, and worker welfare.
ASTAD Project Management, Qatar’s premier project management consultancy, attended the event.
Delivering keynote address at the event, Ali al-Khalifa, ASTAD chief executive officer stressed that the event was an “ideal opportunity” for key national stakeholders who are involved in creating Qatar’s infrastructural legacy to interact, share experience, expertise and opinion.
Al-Khalifa highlighted the importance of gauging industry challenges and developing home-grown solutions collectively.
On the local market, al-Khalifa said, “While the local construction industry continues to prosper, all of us must remain committed to managing and delivering projects that are essential to the country’s sustainable development — bringing together all the important elements needed in order to secure a booming and vibrant economy for our nation and a bright future to look forward to.”
The conference comes at an important time for Qatar’s various national infrastructure projects. Over the past year Doha’s newly opened Hamad International Airport has placed Qatar at the forefront of international air travel and facilities, while construction is under way on the New Port Project, Ashghal’s Expressway Programme, the National Rail Programme and the Doha Metro.
In addition, work continues on the Qatar Economic Zones — a development under ASTAD’s supervision.
“The construction sector has grown incredibly quickly and has risen to the challenges presented to it as a rapidly growing market, and I’m sure all of us here today look forward to the endeavours in the years ahead,” al-Khalifa added.
ASTAD is currently managing some of the nation’s key projects across sectors such as the National Museum of Qatar, the Qatar Economic Zones, The Qatar Foundation Health and Wellness Precinct, and the New Doha Tennis Stadium at Khalifa Tennis Complex.
