The Hamad Medical Corporation’s Training and Development Department within the Office of Engineering, in collaboration with the Health Professions Awareness and Volunteering Programmes, recently visited Aisha Bint Abu Bakr Independent School for Girls to promote engineering-related career opportunities at HMC.
The visit is part of HMC’s efforts to attract students towards engineering careers at the medical corporation, which sees teams from HMC regularly go to local schools to advise young men and women to opt for higher education in engineering.
In 2014, HMC teams visited 25 schools and this year the plan is to visit 30 schools in addition to some universities and colleges.
In this regard, a delegation from the HMC’s Office of Engineering headed by Abdulla Khalaf al-Kubaisi, chief of the Training and Development Department, visited Aisha Bint Abu Bakr Independent School for Girls. Al-Kubaisi provided information on the engineering departments at HMC and the services they provide. He also explained the necessary requirements to apply for engineering jobs at the corporation.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions and share their concerns. Al-Kubaisi highlighted that the corporation was determined to support the National Qatarisation Programme in many areas, including engineering.
A plaque of appreciation was presented by al-Kubaisi to the academic adviser at the school, Naila al-Jassim, who thanked the HMC delegation for guiding and instructing students on the requirements of the job market in Qatar.
HMC’s Office of Engineering offers scholarships to Qatari students upon approval from the university the student is enrolling into. The department also offers work opportunities to all graduates after completing their course.
Another initiative has been established wherein students from Qatar Technical Independent School are given technical training by HMC through a three-year programme, which also encourages engineering faculties to work with HMC by providing specialised training to staff.
