Ambulance entry to Hamad Hospital

Dear Sir,

Ambulances travelling from the Sports Roundabout on the Al Rayyan Road towards the Hamad Hospital have to travel all the way to the White Palace signal and take a U-turn to reach  their destination. This section is clogged with traffic, having no shoulder and no space for even well-meaning drivers to give way to ambulance vehicles. Ambulances take more than 10 minutes to cover the small distance.
A special “ambulance-only” opening could be made on the road divider opposite to the LuLu Centre,  which will allow them to enter the Hamad Hospital. This would help them save precious minutes.
Every second counts for patients being rushed to hospitals on emergency.

Touts swarming insurance offices

Dear Sir,

I was shocked and surprised to find touts swarming an insurance office when I went there the other day to enquire about my car’s front windshield damage. During my seven years  in Qatar, I have never come across such a thing. This is a new experience to me.
I agree that everyone wants to make a living and I don’t intend to stop people trying to earn commissions through such pursuits. But overactive touts don’t help honest practices in business and it also spoils the image of institutions on whose behalf they are working. Authorities concerned must take necessary action to stop such practices.

Wrongful practice

Dear Sir,

I would like to express my concern about the illegal use by some people of money provided by the government to its employees to buy  air tickets. All government offices in Qatar give cash to their expatriate employees to buy air tickets to their home countries during annual leave. Some of them, it seems, book tickets offered by airlines at cheaper rates as part of promotions or during off-season. As a result, such cheaper tickets are denied to many low-paid people working with  private companies.
The government issues money for tickets according to the current Qatar Airways rates. By buying the cheaper tickets, some government employees make a profit out of them!
I would like to suggest that the government to issue air tickets rather than giving money  to its employees so that this wrongful practice is discontinued.
