Leading Qatari entrepreneur HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani opened the eighth Gulf English School (GES) Career Fair, organised by the International Baccalaureate (IB) students as part of their course.
GES invited students from Year 9 upwards from other schools to come to the Fair to meet with companies and universities, to understand what they could offer in terms of careers or courses.
A total of 294 students from Qatar International School, Vision School at Wakrah, ACS Doha, Awsaj Academy, Qatar Academy Sidra and Dukhan School attended.
Fareehan Mustafa, IB student at GES and part of the organising committee, said: “Organising the Career Fair, as part of our IB Course, provided us with real life experience and helped to develop our communications skills and our confidence as a student body. As it was out of our normal comfort zone, it taught us a lot about how to interact with organisations in the commercial and academic worlds.”
Abeha Sukainah, also an IB student at GES, said: “We had a very positive response from visiting schools and schoolchildren.  By all accounts, it’s been the most successful Career Fair that GES has held to date.”
The GES Career Fair aimed to give older students in Qatar the opportunity to meet potential employers and colleges where they may choose to study.  By opening it up to students from other schools, GES managed to attract a host of excellent sponsors and companies setting out their stall as well as many universities.
