Several patients of the Heart Hospital under the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) have complained that the pharmacy at the hospital is unable to dispense all the medicines prescribed by doctors.

They also stated that it takes a long time to get the prescribed medicines as there are long queues at the pharmacy.

In a letter to Gulf Times recently, a patient complained that this problem has been going on for sometime now.

Some other patients said they had to wait for several hours to receive any type of medicine as long queues were a common sight. They were of the view that other procedures such as registration, consultation with doctors, all the laboratory tests as well as the ECG are done smoothly at the hospital.

"When I asked some of the officials at the Heart Hospital, they pointed out that the delay is caused by a new system which is being implemented for delivery of medicine for the last 20 days," a patient claimed.

Another patient complained that some of the vital medicines are not available at the Heart Hospital pharmacy.

Narrating his experience, a patient who has undergone angioplasty, said: "Upon presenting the prescription, the pharmacist said the medicine is out of stock and asked me to come and collect it later. When I went there after a couple of days, the pharmacist asked me to get a new prescription. Everybody knows how difficult it is to get a new appointment and a new prescription from a busy doctor at the Hamad Medical Corporation.”

He added that some of these drugs are indispensable and if they are not taken regularly and on time, it can lead to serious health problems.

Gulf Times contacted HMC officials for their comments, but there has been no response so far.
