The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) and Qatar University’s Social Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), in partnership with the World Economic Forum, have announced the launching of the Executive Opinion Survey 2015 in Qatar.
The survey, entitled “The Voice of the Business Community,” serves as a major component of The Global Competitiveness Report, said QBA board member Sheikh Mohamed bin Faisal al-Thani.
He said the survey provides “a key ingredient that turns the report into a representative annual measure of a nation’s economic environment and its ability to achieve sustained growth.”
Sheikh Mohamed said the survey gathers significant information on a broad range of variables where hard data sources are “scarce or nonexistent.”
“High-level business executives operating in Qatar will be surveyed to capture their opinion on the business environment in which they operate.
“A sample of company executives in Qatar will be asked to complete this important and confidential survey. The QBA and SESRI note that it is important that each respondent should complete the survey to ensure that Qatar has accurate and reliable data in the report,” he stressed.
In the 2014 World Economic Forum’s annual report, Qatar led the Arab world and Middle Eastern countries to rank number 16 on the Global Competitiveness Index.
“Conveyed by last year’s report, Qatar’s strong competitiveness rests on solid foundations consisting of high-quality institutional framework, stable macro-economic environment, and efficient goods market,” Sheikh Mohamed noted.
He added that the high growth combined with “prudent governmental support” to the financial sector contributed to maintaining a “strong macroeconomic and financial stability.”
The Global Competitiveness Report has been the World Economic Forum’s flagship publication since 1979 and is widely recognised as the world’s leading cross-country comparison of factors affecting economic competitiveness and growth.
The report details a country’s economic profile for each of the  economies featured in the study, providing a comprehensive summary of the overall position in the index rankings, as well as a guide to what are considered to be the most prominent competitive advantages to each while shedding light to the areas that need more development and support.
The rankings are based on a combination of publicly available hard data and the results of the Executive Opinion Survey, a comprehensive annual survey conducted by the World Economic Forum, together with its network of partner institutes in the countries covered by the report.
