Indian embassy staff striving their best
Dear Sir,
I read with great care and concern the complaints raised in two letters published by Gulf Times on the services provided by the Indian embassy in Qatar (“Poor services at Indian embassy”, March 15; and “Embassy should improve services, March 16). There are always two sides to a coin. In my capacity as a senior human resources professional, I have been interacting with Indian embassy officials and visiting them frequently to deal with various matters for more than a decade in Qatar now. The services offered by them are unparalleled and all employed at the embassy, with no exception, are striving their best to render a satisfactory service to Indian nationals in general and to other nationalities in particular.
Let us not lose sight of the fact that the services of the Indian embassy are not restricted to mere passport renewals and attestation of documents. The embassy is safeguarding the interests of the entire Indian community and fully deserves the support, encouragement and assistance of each one of its member.
There may be few lacunae, which are nothing unusual when taken into account the magnitude of the number of Indian expatriates in Qatar and their ever-increasing expectations. It is fervently hoped that in the ensuing weeks, the issues raised in the letters will be addressed by the authorities concerned so that they don’t recur.

Comments are unfair
Dear Sir,
In reference to the two letters in Gulf Times (“Poor services at Indian embassy”, March 15; and “Embassy should improve services”, March 16), I feel that their writers have been a bit unfair. Considering the high number of Indian expatriates working in Qatar, the embassy, I feel, is doing a good job indeed. Things could be better, of course. And one should try to improve always. But that does not mean one is not doing a good job. The embassy needs more staff and better facilities. And for that, the Indian government should take the initiative. There is no point in blaming the staff at the embassy who are trying to cope with the heavy workload placed on them.
What about those tens of Indian organsiations and forums in Qatar? Why can’t they approach the Indian government in New Delhi to provide more facilities and additional staff to the embassy? The forums and groups should work together for the welfare of the entire Indian community.
