The Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA) will open a ‘pop-up’ interactive gallery ‘Transformations’ today at the W Hotel lobby as part of the ‘Art for Tomorrow’ conference.
Through ‘Transformations’, which will be open to public until March 16, QFCA seeks to highlight the changes that Qatar is undergoing, and the role that everyone in the country has in this story, whilst evoking its role as a facilitator of success for businesses.
The pop-up gallery will feature original photographs by local artist Omar Khalifa, which uses an arresting ‘double-exposure’ technique that merges two images into one. A short film specially created for the event will expand on the stories in the imagery.
Visitors will also be invited to have their photograph taken at the space and transformed into their own unique double-exposure image which will be e-mailed to them later.
The ‘Art for Tomorrow’ conference, which is sponsored by QFC, will bring together artists, architects, museum and gallery directors, cultural ambassadors and financial experts, to discuss the changing dynamics of the arts and architecture industry, and their potential to change people and places.
“We are frequently called on to talk about Qatar’s economic story, but we don’t often hear about the people that are contributing to this narrative. However, the economic growth is also fuelling a creative economy and many young artists working here, both from Qatar and elsewhere, are telling through their art the personal stories behind the country’s success,” said Yousuf Fakhroo, director, marketing and corporate communications, QFCA.
