An Arab national involved in the circulation of counterfeit US dollars and Qatari riyals has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Fake riyal notes with a face value of QR6mn were recovered from him while he was trying to exchange them.
The arrest followed the Economic Crime Prevention Section at the CID receiving information from sources that an Arab national was circulating fake currency notes in denomination of $100 and QR500 by attracting people to get rich and wealthy fast.
The information was verified and a trap was laid to nab the suspect. As per the order issued by the Public Prosecution, the man was arrested by CID officers and the fake notes recovered from him. Following investigation he confessed to the crime. He was referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings.
