Qatar Stars League, the highest professional league in Qatari football, took its support for Qatar National Sport Day to another level by hosting GOALZ Festivals and Tournaments throughout the month of February.
The QSL delivered Goalz football festivals, which are fun, football packed days designed to improve basic football skills and get the country’s youth active.
The most recent of the Goalz Festival was hosted by Qatar Sports Club last weekend.
GOALZ, a school football coaching programme initiated by Qatar Stars League in partnership with Evolution Soccer, attracted over 400 enthusiastic students from between 5 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 11 years old.
During the two days students benefitted from expert guidance from the GOALZ professional coaches who used their experience to inspire talent and help build a strong and passionate base of football fans and players in Qatar.
Thursday saw the GOALZ schools’ youngest age groups participating in a non-competitive festival for ages 5 to 6 years old and then a structured tournament for the ages 7 to 9 years old.
On the second day the students were also invited to attend the QSL match between Qatar SC vs Al Gharafa football match. At half time the winners and runners-up from the tournament were recognised by Tariq Ali Mohamed, the Audience and Marketing Officer of Qatar SC, who presented the medals and trophies on the pitch.
Hassan al-Kawari, Head of Events, Qatar Stars League, commented: “The Goalz Festivals were a great success and we’re extremely proud of all the students who took part.  It was particularly satisfying to see the students accept their awards in front of all the spectators at the match.
“We need to use the inspiration of football to get the youth in Qatar playing football more regularly.
“We want to get students playing and enjoying football from a young age, linking them up with sports clubs so they can pursue their dreams.”
GOALZ will continue to engage students across Qatar with by delivering in a further 24 schools, two more festivals and tournaments scheduled to take place in the later part of the year.
