Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed calls on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Mohamed Sayeed yesterday staked claim to form the next government in the state.
“This followed his unanimous election as the leader of the PDP legislature party that emerged as the single largest party in the recent election. The meeting of legislature party was held here yesterday. Senior leader Abdul Rehman Veeri presided over the meeting,” said a PDP statement.
The development followed the meeting Mufti had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi earlier in the day, it added.
“In his letter to the governor, Mufti Sayeed informed him that with the support of the BJP, the PDP led coalition would enjoy a clear majority and was in a position to provide a stable government in the state in the wake of a split verdict.”
Official sources said the swearing-in ceremony will be held at General Zorawar Singh auditorium of the Jammu University at 11am tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons after his meeting with the prime minister in New Delhi, Sayeed said Modi would be attending the swearing-in function after which a joint press conference would be held by the two leaders.
Sayeed’s meeting with Modi came about following successful conclusion of nearly two months of negotiations between their parties.
The two parties have had varied viewpoint on some crucial issues concerning the border state including Article 370 of the constitution and the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (Afpsa).
The Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party are expected to declare their common minimum programme for governance tomorrow.
BJP leaders said here that half of expected 24 ministers in the new cabinet, including a deputy chief minister, will be from the party.
