Joint Commissioner (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul Islam said yesterday the police station concerned has not yet got the copy of the warrant issued for the arrest of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust Fund graft cases.
“We’ve heard from the media that the copy of the arrest warrant has been sent to the police station concerned but the police station informed us that they have not yet received the copy of the arrest warrant,” he told a press briefing at the DMP media centre in the capital.
He further said, “We’ll take the next step when the copy reaches the police station.”
Revoking her bail, a court in Dhaka on Wednesday issued a warrant for the arrest of Khaleda Zia and two other accused in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust Fund graft cases.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Special Judge’s Court-3 passed the order, rejecting two-time pleas moved by the counsel for the BNP chief.
The court passed the orders as the three accused did not appear before it apparently because of security concern in the ongoing general strike enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
The two other accused are former MP of BNP Kazi Salimul Huq and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed.
Meanwhile, pro-BNP lawyers met at the residence of BNP vice chairman Justice TH Khan amid increasing possibility of the Khaleda’s arrest.
Lawyer to the BNP chief advocate Sanaullah Mian, also secretary of mass education affairs of BNP, confirmed the meeting.
