Ooredoo announced yesterday it would provide enhanced support for the Qatar World Cancer Day 2015 event, organised by Qatar Cancer Society at the Katara Corniche on Friday.
The event aims to raise awareness of the disease, as well as provide family entertainment and opportunities for people to contribute funds for efforts to support research and cancer awareness.
Ooredoo’s popular Alrabaa mascots will take part in the event, posing for pictures, meeting their fans and putting on a special performance as part of the fun-filled programme.
Other highlights include a performance by popular Qatari singer Fahad al-Kubaisi, a show presented by the Police Sports association, and a stand-up comedy routine. The event, scheduled from 4pm to 8pm, is open to the public.
Fatima al-Kuwari, community and public relations director of Ooredoo, said: “Cancer is a disease that impacts families around the world, so we hope that this event can raise awareness and contribute to Qatar’s efforts to protect future generations.”
According to a recent report from the International Agency for Cancer Research, cancer cases in Qatar may rise by up to 218% by 2030.
Ooredoo has a long history of supporting health CSR initiatives in Qatar, and began a five-year partnership with the Qatar Cancer Society to build “The Ooredoo Cancer Awareness Centre” in 2014.
World Cancer Day, observed in February every year, encourages countries around the world to take a positive and proactive approach to the fight against cancer.
Acting as an awareness campaign as much as a fundraiser, World Cancer Day is a unique opportunity for Qatar to raise awareness that there is much that can be done at an individual, community and governmental level to harness and mobilise health solutions and catalyse positive change.
Ooredoo sponsors and supports a host of events and programmes aimed at promoting healthy living across Qatar, including building and operating the Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Centre, which supports kidney patients in Qatar.
Working towards Qatar National Vision the 2030, Ooredoo’s main CSR goals are focused on health, education and fitness, working with the community to enrich people’s lives and raise awareness on these issues.
