Al Shaqab’s Bohour Al Shaqab and Sultanat Al Shaqab started the day’s proceedings on a glorious note as they clinched the top places in the opening two events on the opening day of the 24th Qatar International Arabian Horse Show at the outdoor arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation yesterday. The Qatar International Arabian Show is being held on the sidelines of the HH The Emir 24th International Equestrian Sword Festival held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Being the first of its kind established in the Middle East, the QIEF is a keenly awaited week for equestrian enthusiasts. The inaugural event in 1991 was held as a Pure Arabian Horse Show but it has over the years grown in stature. This year, apart from the horse show and international races, the Fegentri race for women jockeys will be held during the final three days of the Festival from February 19 to 26.
Bohour Al Shaqab, a progeny of Kahil Al Shaqab took the first place in Class I A ahead of Saudi Arabia’s Shams Al Shagir, while Hajer Al Shaqab took the third place. The winner garnered 91.38 points to emerge victorious.
Marwan Al Shaqab’s progeny Sultanat Al Shaqab continued the winning trend for Al Shaqab when she was adjudged the best looking filly in Class I B with a tally of 92.38 points. Hajer Al Muawo and AJ Aryana took the second and third places.
Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani owned Anood Al Nasser, a progeny of Ashkal Al Rayyan dominated in the Mares 7-10 category with a total of 93.25 points well ahead of Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalid Al Thani owned D’aaja Al Naif who finished second with 92.75 points. Ajman Stud’s El Saghira was third with a similar tally of 92.75 points.
Ajman Stud’s AJ Reeda took the first place in Class 2A for Fillies with an aggregate of 91.88 points, while Saudi Arabia’s Eshila (91.50) and Al Shaqab’s Farah Al Shaqab (91.13) were second and third respectively.    
In Class 2B for Fillies, Saudi Arabia’s Mounira J (92.25) took the top honours ahead of Al Thumama Stud’s Orla Turnia (91.25) and Al Nasser Stud’s Bdour Al Nasser (90.88).
In Class 3 A, Sahwat Al Khalediah of Saudi Arabia was declared the winner ahead of Al Tumama Stud’s Penelope and Salmah Al Shagir who claimed 91.50 points each. Qatar’s Penelope was declared second best for her movement. The winner clinched 91.63 points for her beauty and all round performance.
Saudi Arabia owned Pure Arabians dominated in Class 3B for Fillies, taking the first three places. Piacolla was a clear winner with 92.25 points, while Ptronia K.A. (91.00) and Samra Al Zobair (90.13) completed the clean sweep in the category.
Saudi Arabia’s Perfinka was adjudged the best looking Mare in the Class 7 for four to six years category.  Perfinka with a tally of 93.13 was declared the winner ahead of Sheikh Abdulla Bin Nasser Al Thani’s Marghobat Al Naif who garnered 92.63 points.
