The winning schools and students in the National Schools Science Competition for the academic year 2014-2015 were honoured by Oryx GTL chief executive officer Abdulrahman al-Suwaidi.
The awards ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Education and Higher Education and secretary general of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) HE Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi.
Al-Suwaidi praised the SEC for supporting projects that will help Qatar achieve its goals for a knowledge based economy and developing students who will serve the country in future.
Abdul Hadi Bakhit H Barqan, chief administrative officer, Oryx GTL, thanked the education minister, hailed the partnership with SEC and also lauded the SEC for hosting the scientific competition which has been delivering excellent results and returns for students for the past three years.
“Oryx GTL believes it is essential to invest in education today to ensure the future success of the company and the future of Qatar. ORYX GTL is very proud that we have a proven track record in supporting important educational initiatives in Qatar, and we hope by providing this support, students will develop an interest in the field of science at an early age.
“We will continue to help inspire the scientific minds and boost the problem solving abilities of our children, that will serve Qatar in a good way in our common path towards 2030,” he added.
Education Institute director Fauzia Abdulaziz al-Khater explained that the third edition of the National Science Competition aimed to encourage students to study such Science and increase scientific research standards, which will help achieve the Qatar National
Vision 2030.
Fatima El Rashed, head of science section at SEC’s curriculum standards office, recalled that more than 400 students participated in the third edition of the competition, from the three grades including sixth, eighth and tenth grade.
The science section of the Education Institute organised and supervised the competition which included more than 15 practical experiments that were designed to test the participants’ skills in using laboratory instruments and their ability to analyse data, drawings and
diagrams.
