Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) Saturday
invited the community to walk together in solidarity with the victims of the Chapel Hill shooting by delivering a message to keep all students safe and protect our future.
Social media and newspaper websites have witnessed strong expressions of support from Qatari locals and residents for the event that will take place at QF’s Education City today afternoon.
It comes in response to the killings of American Muslim students, Deah Shaddy Barakat, his wife, Yusor Mohamed Abu-Salha, and her sister, Razan Mohamed Abu-Salha, in the USA last week.
The Qatar Solidarity Walk calls on all nations to keep students safe and the future protected.
Education and not hatred must be the shared goal of all people and the walk demands that all students must be safe in order to protect the future.
In a further demonstration of how the killings have touched people worldwide, donations from Qatari and international community members have boosted the charity fund established by victim Deah Barakat in aid of Syrian refugees in Turkey by over $50,000 in the past 24 hours.
QF continues to encourage the community to donate here.
The Qatar Solidarity Walk commences at the entrance of the Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Centre at Education City Sunday at 2.30pm.
Once the walk reaches the Ceremonial Court, young students will commemorate the lives of the victims and make the call to keep all students safe.
Participants should enter Education City from the Ceremonial Court entrance on Al Luqta Street with parking for visitors at the Ceremonial Court car park close by to the Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Centre.
There will also be shuttle buses to the gathering point for those using car parks at AL Shaqab equestrian centre and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
