Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Petrochemical Co (Qapco) have signed a three-year agreement to sponsor the various activities and events organised by the College of Engineering (CENG) in the 2014-2017 period.
The agreement was signed by QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad and Qapco vice-chair and CEO Dr Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla in the presence of QU vice-president and chief academic officer Dr Mazen Hasna, CENG dean Dr Rashid Alammari and several QU, CENG and Qapco officials.
In the terms of the agreement, CENG programmes such as Life is Engineering, Engineering Week, Computing Contest, Senior Design Contest, Wooden Bridge, Gasna, Digital Cube, Mechanical Design Day and the annual training courses conducted by the Gas Processing Centre will be supported by Qapco during 2014-2017.
Welcoming the agreement, Prof al-Misnad said: “This will no doubt enhance the College of Engineering’s capacity to carry on various events and activities geared not only towards enriching the student experience within the college but also towards promoting engineering and science in the community at large, through school outreach activities and other community engagement programmes.
“We are highly appreciative of Qapco’s support and look forward to an ongoing partnership towards achieving our respective visions in line with Qatar’s National Vision.”
Dr al-Mulla said: “I believe it is critically important that we support events and activities that promote engineering and technology to students as it will help ensure our country’s future competitiveness and pave the wave for a new generation who shares our passion for engineering.
Dr Alammari said: “This agreement highlights the spirit of industrial and academic collaboration and represents the college’s commitment to graduating well-rounded and skilled individuals prepared to compete at the highest level in a globalised labour market, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”
